FAQS About Dentures And Partials

December 4, 2018

There have been many advancements in the area of cosmetic dentistry over recent years and these advancements include convenient and affordable solutions with dentures and partials. Gone are the days when the thought of a dental bridge or partial dental treatments induced terror; now they are being used at a record pace to help patients regain a beautiful smile in Kingwood, TX.

That being said, Kingwood Perfect Smiles knows you may have some questions about this smile solution so we’ve prepared the following answers to the most commonly asked questions we hear in our office.

What’s the Difference Between a Full Denture and a Partial Denture?

A full denture, also known as complete dentures, are a great option if you’re missing the entire arch of your teeth, whether it’s the top or bottom portion of your mouth. Partial dentures are perfect if you’re only missing a few teeth from either arch.

What if I’m Only Missing One Tooth?

Instead of using a partial denture, a procedure known as a dental implant can be used to restore the functionality of one missing tooth. A dental implant is typically comprised of an artificial root (the implant), the abutment, and the crown restoration.

How Long Will It Take to Get My Dentures?

As much as we hate to answer this question with a vague timeframe, we have to since your treatment time will depend on your particular situation. But in general, it will take several appointments including the extraction process and the final fitting process.

How Do I Care for My Dentures?

Your dentures can last you for many years to come with the proper care. This includes adhering to the following protocol:

  • Removing and rinsing your dentures after eating.
  • Cleaning your mouth once your dentures have been removed
  • Brushing your dentures at least once a day and making sure you soak them at night
  • Rinsing your dentures every morning before placing them back in your mouth
  • Avoiding abrasive dental products such as whitening or bleaching toothpaste and rinses
